Artist Name: Dylan Rowley
Tell us something about you that fans should know:
Since 2013, I have been making music based on boom-bap and 90s hip-hop. The golden era of warmth, grit, and beats is the sound that made my ears perk up. I started releasing gritty beats on Soundcloud during the beginning of the modern lofi era on the platform, listening to the sounds that would grow to influence the sound as a whole. Coming from that era, I make music that is inspired by J Dilla, Knxwledge, Madlib, and legendary producers like DJ Premiere and DJ NuMark. The sound that comes from these songs is warm, hypnotic, gritty, and punchy, making your head bop.
Where are you from and what’s the music scene like there?
I am from Washington, USA. I’m currently based in the greater Seattle area, which is home to a lot of great underground artists and producers. Some of the best are Cotto, a producer based out of the Seattle area, who has this amazing futuristic trap sound. It’s definitely inspired by the scenery around here. An artist I love out here is Antoine Sand, who I had collaborated with on his debut mixtape, “dead petals”. He is a true spitter with great flows and knows how to float on a beat. The scene out here is eccentric, just like the culture of the port city.
